We started HeyBins because renting a truck, sourcing boxes, and hauling cardboard to the recycling center is a terrible experience that everyone just accepts. We did not think that was good enough.
Reusable totes, dropped at your door, picked up when you are done. No assembly. No tape guns. No breaking down boxes at midnight. That is the whole idea.
Why Frederick County?
Frederick County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Maryland. New construction in Brunswick, Monrovia, and the Route 15 corridor means thousands of households moving every year — and most of them are doing it with flimsy big-box store cardboard that falls apart in the rain.
The reusable bin rental model has proven out in larger markets. We brought it here because the drive times are short, the community is tight-knit, and the waste reduction opportunity is real. We are not a franchise replica of something built elsewhere — we built this for Frederick.

The honest case for bins
Cardboard boxes are cheap to buy and expensive to use. You buy more than you need, some get wet or crushed, you spend hours breaking them down, and they end up in the recycling pile whether or not your county actually recycles them. A set of 30-gallon cardboard boxes for a two-bedroom move typically costs $80–$150 in materials alone, before you add tape.
Our 27-gallon heavy-duty totes stack reliably, hold up to 50 lbs, and do not collapse mid-move. When we pick them up, they get sanitized and go straight to the next customer. Each bin replaces dozens of single-use boxes over its lifetime.
We are not going to invent CO2 savings numbers to put on this page. What we can say: less single-use material leaving the waste stream is a straightforward win, and the bin-rental model has been validated in dozens of markets over the past decade.
